Keynote Speaker
We are proud
to have Hall Davidson,
Director of Global Learning Initiatives, Discovery
Education as our keynote speaker for this year's
conference!!
View Hall's bio
Hall will
present "Not Your
Father's eBook: New Kinds of Learning Tools for New
Kinds of Learners" for the keynote address.
For
generations, students lived with textbooks with print DNA:
linear, undifferentiated, nondynamic. New ‘techbooks’ arrive
with cloud-based media DNA: fluid, differentiated, embedded
and rich as the web. Assessments and simulations connect
organically to material. The medium of the book itself
becomes a tool for learning. Cameras, mashups, and student
material merging with the traditional library. QR codes, 3D,
and, in the future, face-recognition tools to measure
engagement. This is not your father’s ebook!

Wired Wednesday Webinars
Date: December 7, 2011
Time: 3:00p.m. (EST)
Title: Introduction to FERPA - the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
Presenter: Bobbi Dubins, Maryland Online COAT
Project Director
Description: Every college faculty member needs
a basic understanding of FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Most colleges offer training or information sessions for their faculty, but it
is often difficult for colleges to get this information to their adjunct or
fully online faculty, who may not be on campus during typical face-to-face
training sessions. Excerpted from the MOL Certificate for Online Adjunct
Teaching (COAT) course, this session is an introduction to key FERPA concepts.
The session includes an overview of what student records are protected under
FERPA, what rights students have, and what rights parents have. It includes
examples of how to respond to requests for student information in various forms.
Finally, it alerts attendees that FERPA policies may differ from institution to
institution and the importance of knowing the correct FERPA contact person and
policy at their institution.

Title: Copyright in the Online Environment
Presenters: Cindy Steinhoff, Director of the
Library, Anne Arundel Community College
Kimberly Kraus, Access Services Librarian, Anne Arundel Community College
Description: Fair Use, TEACH
Act, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Section 108 – all relate to copyright.
But what do they really mean to someone who wants to use a video in an online
class or post an article as an online course reserve? Two librarians from Anne
Arundel Community College will help you to better understand copyright as it
applies to higher education.
