Spring 2019 Session Descriptions & Guidelines

This year’s event theme, “Get Inspired”, is an opportunity to share big ideas that drive student success in an online learning environment.

This year we have adjusted and refined our session types, and ask that you first carefully review the information below, then submit your proposal.

Poster

Presenter(s) share work in a visually informative way for a more personalized connection with colleagues. Those posters selected will be on display during the entirety of the conference, and there will be a specified
timeframe within the conference schedule for presenters to informally converse with colleagues. Suggested themes are course design process and/or teaching strategies.

The Presenter(s) poster should:
• Focus on 3 objectives/ talking points, and
• Provide more visual representation and less text.

Guidelines:

1. Tri-fold posters are strongly encouraged. A table will be provided.
2. Posters should be readable from a distance of 4 feet.
3. All materials must be prepared (printed) and “poster ready” in advance of arrival. We regret that printers will not be available.
4. Posters should be on display by 9:30 a.m.
5. Presenter(s) should return to their display area from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. to converse and answer questions.
6. Posters should be retrieved by 3:30 p.m.

7-minute Success Stories

The presenter gives a succinct, 7-minute narrative of how they used new solutions to tackle traditional problems using no more than 7 slides.
Suggested themes are teaching strategies and/or effective use of
tools.

The Presenter’s story should:

• Identify the problem,
• Explain the solution,
• Report the outcome, and
• Inspire others!

Guidelines:

There will be 5 back-to-back presentations in a single 50-minute session. A computer and AV projection will be provided. In order to stay on schedule

1. Cloud presentations are not permitted. (Wifi can be unpredictable!)
2. Presenters should load their presentation to the computer desktop by 9:30 a.m.*
3. Presenters are encouraged to rehearse in order to stay within the 7-minute time limit.
4. Q & A will occur after the 5th presentation.

*The desktop will be purged by the Event Coordinator at 3:30 p.m.

20-minute Educational Slideshow Presentation

Presenters share experiences about trending topics in online learning, such as accessibility, universal design, early alert systems, and digital literacy.

The presentation should:

• Assume the audience is informed of the topic and focus on application, and
• Provide 1 to 2 takeaways.

Guidelines

There will be 2 back-to-back presentations in a single 50-minute session. A computer and AV projection will be provided. In order to stay on schedule:

1. Cloud presentations are not permitted. (Wifi can be unpredictable!)
2. Presenters should load their presentation to the computer desktop by 9:30 a.m.*
3. The use of embedded video is discouraged.
4. Presenters are encouraged to rehearse in order to stay within the 20-minute time limit.
5. Each presentation will be given 4-minutes for Q & A.
